Art Works @Zibiru is proud to present:
ANCIENT LIGHT, photographs by Raz Degan
A multifaceted artist, Raz Degan has forged multiple career trajectories, channeling the modern day Renaissance man. From model to actor (working with industry heavyweights like Oliver Stone and Robert Altman), cinematographer to documentary filmmaker (The Last Shaman, distributed by Netflix), gallerist (East West Gallery, Milan), yogi and world traveler, Degan has cultivated his passion for the visual image in every aspect of his craft.
Ancient Light is his first exhibition in Bali at Zibiru, which highlights his recent exploration of Myanmar’s Mrauk-U, an archaeologically important town in northern Rakhine state. “Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you come upon a place that’s still pure at heart and unaffected by today’s modern world. [Burma] was surprisingly so—that place where mystery still exists, and one can step out of time and explore off the beaten track, entering that sacred place we all long for,” says Raz about his experience with the community. “The light of innocence shines through those I was blessed to meet, though I fear that globalization is at its door.”
Capturing the beauty of the tattooed women of the Chin/Zomi Tribe, young boys attending monastic schools and the country’s enduring devotion to Buddhism, this body of work showcases his photographic talent for composition and lighting, masterfully recording singular moments in time.
Each framed print comes in editions of 10, signed and numbered in verso. On view now at Zibiru Restaurant. #artshow #bali
