What is Jazz Manouche? Also known as gypsy jazz or gypsy swing, this style of jazz music sprang from the seemingly disparate blend of gypsy traditions and American jazz. Its leading lights were guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli who met in Paris in 1934. The two formed the legendary Quintet of the Hot Club of France. A joyous up-tempo form of music, jazz manouche drew inspiration from the swing music that was so popular in France in the early 1940s. In keeping with its fierce tradition, Bali’s very own manouche band, Bali Gypsy Fire, performs a lively set full of gypsy flavor and swing at Bali's own hot club at Zibiru. Reservations recommended.
